Hi guyss, this is my second article. I am so glad to do this💃 and If you haven't read the first article, kindly do that here Technical Writing
Many of you would’ve thought that after getting an interview opportunity, all you need to do is perform well in the interview, right? Yes, somehow true as well, but performing well in the interview and securing the job opportunity is not sufficient alone in the tech world, especially if we talk about it from the long-term career perspective.
There are various red flags that we candidates usually ignore noticing during the interviews and then we realized it later after being employed😟😞It's always advisable to know if the particular company is worth working for or not.
Right here, I would discuss some of the most watch out red flags we tend to ignore during any tech interview(based on my experience)
The interviewer does not have enough clarity about the offered role: If the interviewer isn't being able to give a breakdown of what the job role entails, how that particular role affects the company’s core business. Such a situation like this can lead to any of the future possibilities after joining the company you’d be required to do some irrelevant work.
There is not any technical interview round: This look small as it seems but sincerely this is a major phase in every tech interview. If there is no discussion about technical skills then you should JAPA i.e run🏃♀️🏃♂️ The absence of any technical skills assessment during the interview would only signify that it is not necessary for that particular role which is something contradicting, considering the role for which you’re applying but at least a technical round is a must.
The company has no or few old employees: You must be thinking that how a company with no older employees can be a red flag for you? if the company exists for a long time but has zero or few old employees then it can lead to various possibilities like employees leaving frequently due to substandard working conditions, terrible management, not-so-entertaining payscale, or any other reason.
The interviewer is not open for any solution: During the interview, if you’re given a programming problem. And you come up with an optimal solution for it within the given timespan but the approach is slightly different from the one the interviewer is comfortable with. Then, if the interviewer accepts your solution as well as lets you know his approach as well then everything is fine but if the interviewer strictly discards your solution (even though it is correct) without giving any justified reason then it is a warning sign for you to rethink whether the company is the right fit for you or not. This is very crucial because it shows that after joining the company you may not get the required flexibility while working on a project.
These are just some prominent red flags that you must look out for during a tech interview to make better decisions for your career.
I will also recommend that instead of declining any job opportunity immediately after finding a red flag during the interview, you need to ask yourself some questions like how will it impact your career, also can it be resolved, etc. before making the final decision of accepting the job offer!
